Äli's thesis defense remains a memorable event. In 1994, Äli successfully defended his diploma in monumental painting titled "Abai: Through the Eyes of My People" with distinction.

The idea of the composition was fully realized in the artwork. The images are highly convincing and realistic. The depiction of Abai's image, complemented by ethnographic elements, harmoniously integrates life and vitality. Every corner of the painting is filled with national dramatic images, creating a cohesive and powerful overall scene. The audience is compelled to perceive the environment in which Abai lived, along with their emotions and thoughts. The idea's compositional vitality demonstrates the high quality of the painting. Äli prepared meticulously for this work, creating numerous sketches. His philosophical nature was closely aligned with that of the great graphic artist Isatay Isabayev, who deeply felt and beautifully expressed Kazakh folklore in his graphics. By studying the greats of the past, Äli emphasized the power of thematic art in conveying the essence of an artistic image. The clarity and realism of the narrative drama, combined with the depth of psychological characterization, revealed the richness of the artistic image.

This is the result of immense effort in combination with deep talent. The state commission gave it the highest praise, with some even suggesting, “Such work deserves a state award.” With the permission and agreement of Äli's family, this diploma work could be realized in any suitable building. However, only time will tell.
